Choosing The Right WordPress Theme

choices2WordPress is among the world’s leading web hosting companies, and if you have not heard about it, you have not been on the internet!

Nah, actually we know that you’ve heard of WordPress, but you’ve probably not started using it yet – just a matter of time, we know!

Whether you are already on WordPress, or whether you will be here soon, one thing is essential knowledge, and that is about choosing the right themes. For hobby bloggers who are on a WordPress domain (yourname.wordpress.com), any of the free themes are good enough. But when you have your own business site run on your own domain powered by WordPress, general themes will not do. We don’t want our business sites to look like some amateur blog, do we? That is where choosing the right theme for your website comes into play.

The first thing you need to think about before choosing themes for your site is the genre in which you’d like your site to make a name for itself. If you are into affiliate marketing, you require a different theme; if you want to make a membership site, you’ll look for a different theme. Get the draft?

Once you are ok with that, go out and scour the internet for sites that are competition for you. Check them out in depth and see which features are lacking in them. That will guide you on which theme you need to choose for your website. Also write down a list of features you would like to have on your site. This is so we can choose a theme that is compatible. After the ground work is done, we have two options. One – head down to one of the professional designing outfits and ask them to make a theme exclusively for you. Two – visit a website that specializes in niche themes for WordPress blogs, and see if they have something you like.

We like option two for two reasons –

  1. It is much quicker to find a theme here, as they are available readymade
  2. It will be much cheaper than getting someone to make a theme entirely from scratch.

But if you don’t like the themes you see online, feel free to get it designed. Here is a tip – do not give up till you are completely happy. Any number of reworks is worth it – it is your dream that you are building, and you don’t want to settle with second best!

The rest of it is automatic – of customizing it according to your website, of putting up the right widgets, of optimizing it right (which is a breeze since the site is powered by WordPress) and so on. Go on, find a theme that fits!

**EDIT** My Notes . . . while the above comment is obviously spam, it did seem interesting enough.
