Google, AdMob, & the FTC – A Love Triangle

I first heard about AdMob after installing an application to my iPhone that was using the AdMob advertising network to display entice me to click. AdMob is a mobil advertising network, that has serviced over 135 BILLION (yes billing) Global ad impressions.

Google-Admob

AdMob is unique because they go beyond the scope of being a simple marketplace. They also provide analytics and metrics to help advertisers optimize their media buys.

Google has been working tirelessly to acquire AdMob for $750 million, but now the acquisition could be in jeopardy because of additional scrutiny of the FTC. The additional scrutiny was brought to light when the FTC requested additional information from Google about the deal. Which is real unless there is a sign of trouble.

Andrew Gavil who is a professor at Howard University and specializes in antitrust issues said “This is not good news for Google, but I doubt that this is surprising to them,” he added “I am sure that they understand that any acquisition in the advertising business is going to get scrutiny.”

Back in 2008 Google attempted to partner with Yahoo, but the Justice department vowed to fight them in court. The major concern is that Google has dominated the market in recent years. Even after the FTC begin an investigation between the board members of both Google and Apple we saw several board members who served dual roles instantaneously resign.

I guess we will have to wait and see if Google can pull off this purchase. . .

What does the FTC have to do with this deal? Why can they stick their noses into this? Seriously, they should just let Google buy it so us advertisers can reach more customers :D .
