Google Unleashes Beast: Chrome OS

As former Senator (now President) Obama is known for saying, “they said this day would never come.” Of course he was referring to a completely un-related topic, the effect is the same: Google OS is here.

Others said it would, they just didn’t know when.

After years of speculation, drooling and begging from hardcore Googlers, the search engine giant is set to release a browser style operating system offering a cost effective and lightweight alternative to Windows later this year.

Designed to operate entirely in the cloud, Chrome OS will be built to tout Google’s existing web services while allowing offline media usage and photo viewing.

With the news of Chrome OS coming on the climax of iPad popularity, it just might be a serious contender to Apple’s mobile OS which runs on both the iPhone and iPad.

Contender?

Ok, maybe.

Apple has been around since 1984. Linux, since the early 90′s. The former has managed to capture a mere 5% of the OS market….and it’s open source counterpart even less. What makes you think Google will break the inevitable?

The brand.

Think about it.

No none cared about Apple before the iPod. The mainstream community and pop culture has never cared about Linux…with the 1% making up this market being computer enthusiasts who run out of open source software to shield them from reality.

There has never been, and never will be, a better time for Google to release such a product. Their appeal and user base is as large as its ever been. We trust Google. And, with no large scandal to point to, besides a few run ins and hack issues with the Chinese government, there’s no reason to think this will change.

The Chrome browser hasn’t exactly dominated the market, neither is it a flop.

Even though most companies are not totally sold on the idea of placing to secret company info in the cloud…a wide ranged of SMBs rely on Google for general communication and application needs with some government agencies deciding to go Google

Yes, there are some roadblocks to overcome before Chrome can take down the Great Bear of the North, but they are positioning themselves nicely to send him on the run.

Google needs to stick to it’s day job and not forget what brought them into the race: search. I wouldn’t rule Bing out entirely and who knows what Facebook will pull next…even though they are not a direct threat to Google.

Chrome will take care of itself.

Just keep shipping.
