Guide to Finding Money Making Niches
Whenever you first go about making money online, you ever find yourself saying….If only I knew where to get started? Even if you’re new to the online money making game, or thinking about expanding into new industries, it’s important to know which direction to head.
Well, I want to give you a tip, and walk you through a process I think will help. After seeing this…the usual “kick myself because I didn’t think of this ,” will take place…but that’s ok. Most of us don’t know something until someone shows us…or at least points us in the right direction.
This is how I would go about finding niches to either, 1.) build custom blog farms, or, 2.) Find niches to run affiliate offers for. Even if you build a blog farm, it’s likely you’ll run some type of affiliate marketing to it. Ok, let’s do this.
Login to your Google Adwords account (if you don’t have one, sign up..it’s easy and free.) Next, go to Tools, choose Keyword Tool. Instead of using the standard keyword search process, look under “How would you like to generate keyword ideas?” Choose: Website Content.
Here’s the kicker: The site you pick is really important because it needs to be 1.) A regularly updated site, and, 2) Site that focuses on current events or news (pop culture, sports, politics.) We’re not only trying to find a niche, but also something current that people are interested in.
For this example, let’s use Yahoo.com. Keep in mind you want to use a site heavy on text and not too much graphics. More text means the higher keyword selection you’ll have. Time to give it a shot.
After typing in Yahoo for site related keywords, here are my results:
- Tiger Woods related: 39 keywords
- Top 10 Related: 8 keywords
- Top 100 related: 7 keywords
- Misc related: 8 keywords
For the Tiger Woods category, some keywords were: tiger woods signed golf ball, tiger woods signed flag, tiger woods autographed golf ball. You have several options to organize the results…Estimated CPC, Advertiser Competition, Search Volume. Let’s take one of the long tail keywords, and do some exploring – “tiger woods elin nordegren.” Ever since the Tiger Woods Wreck Watch 2009 kicked off, it seems like this is all Yahoo has covered. Seems like a hot niche right?
Search the keyword phrase in Google. In a bare bones search without any quotes, there are 1,140,000 competing terms. However, stick quotes around it (which represents a phrase match – all words have to be included). With this search, you’ll find 646,000 competing terms. It cuts the competition in half!
After running the search you have the choice to like I said before, of making money from a Sqidoo Page with this term…or starting a custom blog on Blogger.
The truth is, escpecially on a popular news site, most of these keywords will be really competitive. However, after drilling down far enough, you can find keywords with relatively no competition. Try it with a niche news or gossip blog…which will result in even more less competing words.
Once you find the right niche to go with, setup your blog or Squidoo site (whatever floats your bloat)..and use a service like Paid Back Links, to start driving traffic to the site…assuming you have ads on there of course. Bingo! You have a niche based website. Again, repeat this 100 times…and see what happens.
