Good Use Of Content

downloadIf you have heard before that ‘content is king’, hear it again – CONTENT IS KING.

We live (online) in a world full of plagiarized stuff and bot generated articles, and we expect that we do roaring business! Whenever people have tried to succeed at marketing online or in creating a website that offers a set of products or services, it is content that has pulled them through.

You might have heard about the now-ubiquitous ‘Organic Search Engine Rankings’, which is the future certainly. You can look up Google to get more information on the way rankings can be enhanced organically – meaning using entirely white-hat techniques and focused on the long term; but the key way in which online business increases is with good content.

To get the right content, the first step lies in understanding what your customer wants to read. We all have heard the word empathy, which is loosely defined as ‘standing in the other person’s shoes’. Getting good content is exactly that. Here is a rule.

No one is interested in what you want to tell them. They are only interested in what they want to hear.

Read that once more.

Good content is that which tells customers what you want to tell them in a way that makes them feel they’ve been waiting to hear this for a long time. Not an easy task, this!

The best way of getting good content (if you are not a good writer yourself) is to hire a company that specializes in content writing. Or you can try hiring a freelancer. Websites like elance, guru, oDesk and other outsourcing hubs have a good number of freelancers available, but the dilemma is in trying to identify who’s really good. Afterall, you don’t have a second chance at content. Once it is up and search engines pick it up, you don’t want to delete it because of whatever reason. So we’d suggest you go with a professional content company. The name ‘sounds’ costly but in effect, they are more economical than a freelancer, and are any day more reliable. Just be sure that you choose one that is absolutely top in the field, or ask your SEO consultant to suggest one to you.

Next up is getting the content mix right. Just because you have a website or blog on which you are selling something, it doesn’t mean you fill up the site wall to wall (figuratively speaking) with sales pitch. You want the content to be interesting and you want your visitors to

  1. Spend more and more time on your site, and
  2. Come back again and again.

This won’t be done just by sales pitch. You can do an activity – think about your favorite website and think why it is your favorite. You’ll get the answer.

Invest resources on creating great content. PPC and Banner ads will probably send people, but only for as long as you keep shelling out money. Good content that is properly indexed by the search engines will keep sending you visitors for a long long time!
