How to Write a Killer Sales Copy

Sales PitchThis is where a lot of people fail while trying to sell online. They make it either too obvious or too awkward while writing a sales pitch, and then they wonder why people are not buying. A sales copy is meant to be a persuasive document.

Here are some quick tips on How to Write a Killer Sales Copy or Sales Pitch.Edit

Remember that in sales, the key is ‘Posture’. Your selling posture is what people will notice – whether you are selling face to face in the real world or obscurely on the internet. Through your words people will realize whether you are confident about the product you are promoting, or whether you are just selling it to make a quick buck. Think about yourself – when you visit some affiliate site, you will realize whether the review or sales pitch is true or whether it has been fabricated just to cheat someone out of some money.

There are two techniques of writing a good sales copy:

  1. Pyramid
  2. Inverted Pyramid

A pyramid style is like a story – where the characters begin first, and there are introductions in the first part. The plot slowly builds, and finally there is a big climax.

An inverted pyramid is where the climax comes first, and then the plot is revealed in flashback, with characters being built at the end – for instance, a newspaper main page article. It starts with a headline – the climax, and then builds in reverse.

Depending on the kind of product you wish to sell, choose your narration style. You are the best judge of which style will suit your sales pitch.

Then come the usage of ‘Power Words’. Power Words are those words which jump out at you and paint a picture in your mind, this is the core of a great sales copy. Most of the adjectives we learnt in school would come here. But don’t use adjectives just for the sake of it – beautiful, extra-ordinary, awesome, marvelous, and mind-blowing, don’t really create a picture. Think about them before you use.

Don’t go overboard in your urge to sell immediately. People have an inbred disbelief of sales pitches and even if you go slightly overboard, the visitor will leave. Be succinct, to the point, honest, and think whether you would like that sales pitch if you were a customer. Too many sales professionals consider customers as the eternal suckers and believe them to soak up whatever is thrown their way. Nothing could be more untrue!

Try writing a couple of pitches yourself. If you don’t like the outcome, go to a professional company that does quality writing work. After all, it is a one-time investment, and you don’t want to take a chance there.

One word of caution – never ever copy someone’s sales pitch. You want your product to be very unique, and it all starts from the sales pitch.
