Internet Search Will Never Be the Same

I woke up this morning . . . and while waiting to have my piping hot latte, I saw some news that I knew would threaten the way we search on the internet. The news came out of Silicon Valley where Microsoft has used its muscle to wrangle Yahoo into a long sought after partnership. google-yahoo-microsoft

This has been the dream of the “big wig cronies” at Microsoft for like 100 years . . . and now with Bing.com not quite working out like they had hoped . . . , it’s even more critical than ever. This deal will allow Microsoft to leverage the world’s 2nd largest search engine audience to again mount an all-out assault on Google.com.

Microsoft gets its search engine jollies, so what does Yahoo get?

Pretty simple; Yahoo has been hurting for a while now and like all giants who have fallen during this economic downturn, Yahoo has been fighting to stay alive.

So the new deal with Microsoft will add an additional $500 million in annual operating profit. Part of the $500 million will include $275 million in annual savings on capital expenditures. This is assuming the deal can get past the fed’s who watch out of monopolies (antitrust).

Still in my opinion Yahoo should have taken the $47.5 billion buyout in May or 2008 . . . but greed and un-clear thinking clouded the minds of execs at Yahoo and now they only get a measly $500 mil / year of profit. (Yawn)

Do I think Microsoft can pull off the Google taken down? . . . Na, Microsoft has a history of throwing good money after bad.

One of the most important lessons in business I have learned is . . . never chase a project because you don’t like what someone else is doing or as we say in Texas . . . because you “got a thorn in your saddle”.

Good luck Microsoft, our prayers are with you . . . Google, I am getting ready to come search for some new ideas on how to make money online. (be ready)
