New Way to Track Social Media Effectiveness
You just Tweeted about a new post on your blog. It looks like it’s getting a little buzz, but there really isn’t a way to tell. Of course you can check the referring links with your favorite stat tracker, post a follow up tweet asking questions about the post…who really knows?
Well, all that’s about to change.
Recently, Post Rank launched a new analytics service which allows webmasters to track how visitors are interacting with their site content. Not only on the site, but across a variety of social media networks as well. This has more to do with visitor engagement than raw traffic data.
For instance, the new tool will track what Post Rank calls Engagement Events. Post rank keeps track of all the tweets, diggs, or any other social activity related to your content. One tweet is considered an event as well as posting one comment.
Even though Post Rank keeps track of all social interaction centered around your blog, not all engagements are created equal. A good example of this would be having a quick chat with a stranger on the street..or a heart to heart talk with your best friend. With this said, they developed a system to score all engagement events based on things like…how much effort each engagement requires. Each event is given an Engagement Point. The more effort the interaction demands…it is given a much higher score. A comment on a blog would receive a higher score than a simple click or page view.
After all the points are added up from each interaction, such as a tweet, Delicious bookmark, comment..etc, the comment is assigned an Engagement Score.

After using the service for a while, you’ll be able to see which content is performing the best with your audience. Remember, in the age of social media, it’s not if they READ it…but what they DO WITH it!
Post Rank also offers a free WordPress Plugin which will add a Top Post widget to your blog. It allows readers to view top archived content, and see which posts have received the top reader engagement.

If you’ve never heard of Post Rank, I highly encourage you to check these cool services out… if you’re a blogger, at least just download the Wordpress Plugin and give it a shot.
