Who is Dave Bird?
If you are a senior executive or owner of a major affiliate network . . . and you have not heard the name “Dave Bird” you should slap yourself. (seriously!)
Dave is the master mind behind a little web site called RunByAffiliates.com, and my gut tells me he is going to make some HUGE waves in the industry.
RunByAffiliates.com is different . . . ?
Affiliate networks are a dime a dozen these days. . . .And without a solid method for setting themselves apart affiliate networks are all destined for failure. However, that is what RunByAffiliates.com has done, and will surely make it a success.
RunByAffiliates.com has separated itself from all other affiliate networks by implementing an new way of doing business. It’s the first (and only) affiliate network that is now offering a democratic styled co-op where the entire network is managed by affiliates. As if that wasn’t enough RunByAffiliates.com has also made its entire finances, salaries, and offer details 100% transparent to all affiliates.
Dave Bird explains it like this:
“The mission of RunByAffiliates is to hand the control to its affiliates and allow the community to decide on the key activities of the network. We have combined this with a strict ‘affiliate charter’ which will go much further in protecting the way in which affiliates are serviced by the network.”
My Recent Meetup.com experience?
I went to a Dallas area Meetup.com group that is “focused” on internet marketing, while the group was actually very “un-focused”, the one thing that did stand out to me was how one of the group leaders made several mentions that he wanted to start his own affiliate network.
Inside I chuckled a bit, because I have owned both direct track and link trust and I have owned my own affiliate network. While his dreams were ambitious without a solid plan of action and with competition such as RunByAffiliates.com his dreams will be quickly crushed.

With all that said, I think there is still room for new and innovative ways to run an affiliate network and I do have plans to create another affiliate network that focuses on Niche specific items. At any rate, if you are going to make it in the affiliate network biz . . . you have to have a slant!
RunByAffiliates.com is far from perfect, but it does appear to be off to a excellent running start.
