Tapulous – Tap Tap Revenge

Tapulous, the developer behind “Tap Tap Revenge” is one of the leading iPhone application development firms with more than $1 million in sales each month to prove it.

Tapulous has a modest work force of 20 people and claims that it is profitable, but won’t talk specific numbers. They tout that “Tap Tap Revenge” has been installed by more than 1/3 of all Apple iPhone users which has led to their astonishing success.

On top of their growing success and growing downloads they also just secured $2.8 million from Investors. Who’s buying in? Marc Benioff who is the CEO of SalesForce.com and some venture capital from Khosla Ventures.

Like Tapulous, we also expect to see the rise of iPhone application development. The new surge of applications developed for the iPhone will largely be due to contract between AT&T and Apple that will come to a close in 2010. When Verizon and Sprint customers can climb on board downloads for iPhone applications will soar.

The monetization strategy for Tapulous and other application developers is pretty simple. They sell applications or give them away for free as they run ads during the use of the app.

I suspect that Tapulous will be acquired soon following in the footsteps of Playfish, another social gaming company that acquired by Electronic Arts for $275 million.

This is music to the ears of Bar Decrem (CEO of Tapulous) who also said “It’s going to be big and all of a sudden people are going to say, ‘holy cow’, where did those guys come from?”
