The Decision: Good for Miami…Not For Lebron

Now that we are on the other side of the King’s Decision and have moved on to bigger and better things, such as: how many championships will they win? I wonder if the new Oracle of Miami will realize what type of impact his recent Akron to Chicago, down to South Beach and up to New York and New Jersey tour will have on his image?

From a fan’s perspective I say….Great! More revenue and entertainment for the game. Great for economically (and oil) ravaged Florida and the entire Southeast region.

How about for Lebron?

Let’s not forget who and what all this hoopla is about.

Ever since his entrance into the league at the tender age of 18…he has been the King. Self proclamation or not, it is what it is.

Now the big question looms: Does the recent Decision match up with that of a king?

From a PR, marketing and business decision….no it does not.

Kings don’t join forces, they create them

Whether he’ll admit it or not, the Heat is Dwyane Wade’s team. You don’t move into a superstar’s turf (who already has a championship) and expect to gain maximum exposure for yourself (more of this below). The days of Monarchy are over – welcome to the oligarchy of Wade, James & Bosh.

You can only sell so many jerseys

James might as well have went to L.A. If “all he cares about is winning” the smartest thing to do would be align with the winningest coach in history and Kobe Bryant who has as handful of rings.

Back to the jersey part, I don’t care how big the market is…fans will always be loyal to Wade and now you have to compete with Bosh, who will command a following of his own. Only your most extreme of fans will plop and extra 60 bucks down for James memorabilia.

Should he have to decided to stay in Cleavand, the market is his. Yes, I know its not all about jerseys (ticket sales help too), however, for someone who commands a certain amount of attention (i.e the last 30 days) – why not try and carve out your own place in history?

Of course some will say, Jordan had a Rodman and Pippen…Kobe had Shaq.

But a Wade and Bosh?

Of course you’ll win championships… and as Chris Rock would say, “that’s what your supposed to do.”

Since Lebron is safe and sound, I can sleep now. Maybe Allen Iverson will get South Beach fever. That would give us something to talk about.
