Why “The Office” Needs Online Entrepreneurs
Today I was reading an article by entrepreneur and author Seth Godin, and he said something I had never really thought of before, concerning the popular T.V show, “The Office.
I think in ten years the TV show ‘the Office’ will be seen as a quaint antique.
Really?
Seth probably lost all of his Dunder Mifflin fans by making such an outrageous comment, but let’s dig a little deeper and see if there’s any truth to it – then find out how we can “fix” the Office and make it more relevant to fellow online worker bees.
First off, this quote is coming from a post titled “Goodbye to the Office”..and no he’s not talking about Michael’s office. Godin is referring to the physical location some of you drive to everyday to watch the hours roll by like a bad parade.
So, if no one is gonna care about “the Office” in 10 years…what can we do to make it not look like a “quant antique” so all Dunderheads can continue partaking of Dwight Schute’s profound wisdom.
Get Michael an iPad
Of course only the legendary Mr. Scott could pull this off, but some type of contraption to “monitor” the office while him and Dwight are roaming the Pennsylvania countryside would be a fitting and relevant piece.
Let Stanley Work…anywhere
Holding true to Godin’s principals, why does Stanley have to be cooped up in the office all day. Remember, the office can still be “the Office” in Krispy Kreme or Five Guys. C’mon its not like they are making the paper.
Hire an SEO Team
This might be the perfect job to in-source. I’m thinking Jim or Andrew. Have Michael call a meeting to discuss creative ways for driving more traffic to DM’s site…or listen to Dwight give a 10 minute oratory for running a ddoss attack on a competitor.
Let Phyllis Manage Facebook and Twitter
This will be in addition to her usual duties of course…whatever they may be. However, I can’t think of a better position for Mrs. Sassy than to be keeping clients and fans updated on the inner workings of this great company.
Adios Dress Code
Drop the stuffy corporate world look and go with the Google code…I’m sure Brian will think of something stimulating to wear.
Of course these tips won’t keep this show around as everyone would like, but it might spice things up enough to help the transition into the office-less world.
Now there’s a show for you.
As always, I appreciate your feedback…so leave a comment and let me know how you would help the office succeed for the next 10 years!
